NZ On Air, the independent government funding agency overseeing public media in New Zealand, released new research this month to understand how audiences are accessing content.
The findings revealed some key observations, including continued growth in digital media consumption and a clear gap between online viewing and linear TV.
The research survey also explored illegal streaming, downloading and torrenting of content and found that 31% of New Zealanders have reported accessing content this way, a figure that is slowly growing. The growth is greatest amongst 15-34 year olds where 34% admit to streaming, downloading or torrenting.
