Price increases of subscription services and a growing number of services available is sending some Australian’s back to piracy, according to a news article by ABC News this month.
New data released in the Deloitte Media and Entertainment Consumer Insights annual report shows Australian households are spending $57 per month on streaming, down from $62 in 2022.
For James* he says he has returned to piracy as he is unwilling to pay for multiple subscriptions and it’s easier to find all of the content he wants via a single pirate website.
He’s also unwilling to wait, even a few hours: “(Star Trek Picard) was available in America, I think more than 12 hours before it was here and I skipped the queue and went straight to the torrent to get it,” he said.
