Canadian copyright commentator Hugh Stephens has responded critically to Canada’s new AI strategy noting the document makes no mention of copyright.
Stephens warns the government not to ‘give away everything in the shop’ to ensure Canadian content is included in AI models. He argues that AI developers want and need Canadian content and there is an opportunity to facilitate licencing solutions between the AI industry and rightsholders.
