A 2019 study by digital piracy research company MUSO, together with GumGum Sport revealed that Premier League clubs in the English top flight were losing approximately UK£1 million (US$1.39 million) in sponsorship every game because of piracy.
It’s thus an enormous victory for the English Premier League and Spain’s La Liga with the successful take down of a site that has been illegally streaming games from both top-flight soccer leagues. Mobdro was regarded as the world’s largest pirate streaming app, earning illegal profits estimated to be more than 5 million Euro.
After an investigation by Europol, the European Union’s law enforcement agency, four court orders were issued to take down domains, 20 web domains and servers were blocked, four arrests were made and bank accounts were frozen.
