France’s Parliament has amended its piracy law to let regulator ARCOM use an automated system to notify ISPs to block pirate sports streams in real time during live broadcasts.
It moves France from manual, case-by-case domain blocking to instant, automated blocking during live events — modelled on foreign precedents including Italy’s “Piracy Shield,” a system that’s drawn criticism elsewhere for overblocking unrelated sites.
