A US District court has ruled that artwork created by Generative AI cannot be protected by copyright and that human authorship is an essential requirement of copyright.
Despite the ruling, the judge also acknowledged that humanity is “approaching new frontiers in copyright” where artists will use AI to create new work which will challenge our thinking on how much human input is necessary for copyright AI created art.
