Collaboration between sporting bodies and rights holders is a key strategy in the fight against digital piracy, according to The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment’s Neil Gane.
Existing laws and regulations also need to be adapted to address the short-term value of live sports events, including measures to ensure the immediate removal of illegal content, Gane says.
Noting that rights holders and sports industry associations only began working together on joint criminal and civil cases in the past few years, he says: “An ideal approach would provide collective protection for the global sports industry – parties involved would benefit from the economies of scale that come with the avoidance of duplicative efforts.”
