Japanese publishers are calling on more support from the country’s Government, after revealing that pirate manga websites cost the industry more than $6.7 billion in 2024 as overseas operated sites exceed 1.5 billion visitors each month.
The industry, which generates $32b for Japan’s economy, has identified several solutions to the problem including long term awareness campaigns to educate global audiences on the harm of piracy, and more proactive measures overseen by Government agencies.
