New report examines site blocking success

A new report has delivered key findings outlining the efficacy of Site Blocking around the world as talks ramp up in the US to introduce new legislation.

The report, which was commissioned by the Digital Citizens Alliance and prepared by IP House, came to three key conclusions:

  1. Site Blocking is effective – Traffic to blocked pirate sites was reduced by 69% in Australia
  2. It promotes legal alternatives – After the introduction of Site Blocking in India there was an 8% increase to legal streaming in one year.
  3. The legislation does not ‘Break the Internet’ as claimed by opponents in the US – IP House studied more than 50 countries, which have implemented Site Blocking, and found no discernible harm done to the workings of the internet.
