“Non-human” expression, including AI, ineligible for copyright protection

As AI plays an increasing role in artists’ creations, the US Copyright Office has highlighted the role of human agency in machine-produced works by rejecting an application to allow an AI copyright a work of art.  The board determined that an algorithm, entitled “Creativity Machine, was ineligible for protection because it didn’t include a necessary element of “human authorship”.
