Piracy as a business: how movie thieves make billions in a post-pandemic world

The shift to online streaming premieres of movies in the post-COVID-19 era is proving to be a goldmine for pirates, who hack into files containing the content or bribe a member of the film’s inner circle to get digital access.

The leaked films are then sold to illegal streaming platforms of offered as “free content” by  downloading apps, enabling hackers to use the installed software to access and control the victim’s device.
