According to the Coalition Against Piracy (CAP), 3,500 pirate sites have been blocked in Indonesia since the government began site blocking in mid-2019. CAP’s data has also revealed that traffic to pirate sites is down by 75%, while traffic to legitimate sites has tripled over the same period. Prior to site blocking, copyright infringement had been a huge issue in Indonesia with 53m viewers visiting pirate sites each month. Government legislation, education and the proliferation of legal platforms are all credited with the decline in piracy.
