Senate report on AI calls for copyright regulation

The Select Committee on Adopting Artificial Intelligence has tabled its final report, calling for laws to regulate high-risk uses of AI at the whole-of-economy level.

The changes would seek to ensure Australian copyright holders, such as authors, artists and musicians, were compensated for the use of their material.

Tech firms would be forced to reveal what copyright works they used to train their AI models and to prove the use of this material had been “appropriately licensed and paid for”.
