TikTok and APRA AMCOS have signed a multi-year music licensing deal allowing for the collection of digital mechanical and performance royalties and delivering a new revenue stream to over 111,000 Australian and NZ songwriters, composers, music publishers and creators of music.
Music is a fundamental part of the TikTok experience. Through the platform, users can explore their own creativity using sounds from renowned artists and songwriters from around the world. Not only has the platform driven new song discovery but it has given classic songs new life and provided an open platform for the talent of creators to be recognised, celebrated and used in video creation.
The TikTok/APRA AMCOS licensing arrangement also demonstrates how creative industries are maximising the opportunities provided by the changing habits of consumers and developing new pathways for them to access and engage with music and video.
