The Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA) has warned generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney pose a threat to the creatives it represents and has called for copyright protections to be extended to content that mimics an existing artist to prevent their style being used without payment or authorisation.
But Google and Microsoft are urging the government to move in the opposite direction, establishing exemptions from copyright law to allow tech companies to train AI without compensation.
