Why Netflix and other streamers are cracking down on password sharing

Pirates are exploiting casual password sharing and finding new profits by selling individual credentials on marketplaces or by setting up their own streaming services.
In this article, the LA Times examines a growing problem of consumers illegally purchasing logins for SVOD services via online marketplaces. Account sharing and piracy is said to cost streamers and pay TV providers $9.1 billion in lost revenue in 2019, and that’s expected to grow to $12.5 billion by 2024.
